SHITANG EXHIBITION
The interior of the Vanke pavilion contains the Exhibition entitled Shitang (in chinese dining hall) through an installation of 300 multimedia screens randomly organized in the space, delicately fixed to an innovative bamboo self-supporting structure designed and calculated to meet the italian and Expo building codes. The bamboo species and poles were selected personally by architect Cardenas during a trip to the Anji forests in China, protected from funghi then transported to Italy, cleaned and installed on site. The structure follows a very precise geometrical logic eventhough the structure is conceived to look natural and casual as a chinese bamboo forest. The connections between bamboo poles is “dry mounted” which allows easy assembly, dismantling
and reuse. The Exhibition expresses Vanke’s vision of the crucial role played by Shitang in China everyday’s life “Shitang: building community through food”.
