In 2004 he established Studio Cárdenas Conscious Design in Milan, a professional design studio that explores a range of issues from public spaces, (such as multi-propose shopping centers, leisure spaces), to commercial showrooms; residential complexes and even industrial design. Experimenting with the use of natural materials and avant-garde technologies to create a contemporary architectural language that responds to the environment, the search for ‘conscious design’ is pursued in every project undertaken by Studio Cárdenas.
From 2006 to 2012 in parallel with the studio activities, Cárdenas was consultant for Arup Façade Engineering where he divided his time between Milan and London, working on a wide range of international projects. He was the leader of the facade engineer team in the Arup Milan Office.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of Frames Magazine, published by Il Sole 24 Ore Business Media a journal specialized in Building Facade and of Nemeton Magazine specializing in ecology and vegetable architecture. Numerous of the Studio’s projects have been published in international publications and several have been awarded prizes and mentions for the innovative character.
